Surrogacy is a process and a legal agreement whereby a woman (the surrogate mother) agrees to bear child for another person who will eventually become the legal parent (s) of the child. Likewise, International surrogacy is an arrangement between the parents in Australia and a surrogate mother who resides in another country. There are two types of International Surrogacy:
- Altruistic surrogacy – As legal in most Australian states and territories, the surrogate mother does
not make any profit however the parents might repay the cost of medical and legal expenses.
- Commercial surrogacy – When the surrogate mother makes profits from the agreement and gets
paid more than the recovery of medical costs. But, this practice is illegal in most Australian states
